People ask me why are you going to Iceland, or they say that’s on my bucket list, too: people assume I’m
going by myself, & they’re right though a poet or three might
join me for a few days: I won’t know until they do or don’t: by
myself I’ll count on my wits & when offered, local kindness:
I’m reading the sagas now to learn about skyr, about the Thing,
about treachery, violence, weather, volcanoes: I already read Laxness
to learn about sheep.
