Not a Seal [Tova Olivia Pappas] |
Of Hieroglyphs Apology
Gender shorn
my cat scorns
gravity’s interference,
on Kafka's bucket horse
I hobble flights of stair,
we ken the runes —
what morning brings
but evening don’t —
vaporlocked, waterlogged,
such change unsays us,
alternate grammar worlds
refuse words
or step them wryly,
hypotheses beg
of hieroglyphs apology
keys & screens deny,
my cat upholstered
spoils to rupture
pattern’s fixed weave —
I’ve no call to neighbor
nor court to pay myself,
not divisible by one
yet lips form.
